Tuskegee Greenwood Townhouse Development
Reviving Tuskegee’s Historic Greenwood Community & Supporting Homeownership for Tuskegee University’s Faculty & Staff
The Greenwood Townhouses project is more than new housing—it’s a restoration of Tuskegee’s historic Greenwood community, once a vibrant center of Black homeownership, entrepreneurship, and academic life. Established by early Tuskegee Institute faculty and skilled craftsmen in the late 1800s, Greenwood stood as a model of Black excellence and self-sufficiency, reflecting the vision of Booker T. Washington and the values that shaped the university.
Today, we have a rare opportunity to bring that legacy back. In partnership with Tuskegee University, Greenwood Townhouses will offer high-quality, affordable, rent-to-own homes intentionally designed to help faculty, staff, and essential local professionals build real pathways to homeownership. Through an innovative model that allows residents to accumulate $24,000 in equity within five years, the project creates long-term stability and helps university employees put down roots in the community they serve.
Supporting this effort strengthens Tuskegee University’s ability to attract and retain world-class talent, while breathing new life into one of its most historic neighborhoods. Led by a local, minority-owned development team, Greenwood Townhouses honors the past while empowering the next generation of Tuskegee’s educators, leaders, and caretakers to own a piece of the community they uplift!
Your contribution helps rebuild history, expand homeownership, support university faculty and staff, and revitalize a proud Tuskegee legacy.
